HOW TO PARTICIPATE

1. LOOK AT THE RHYTHM PROVIDED BELOW. You must incorporate this rhythm significantly in your solo. This rhythm was provided randomly by RhythmBot.

2. Submission Deadline: Feb 10

3. Submit your solo by posting it as a Reel on Instagram.

4. Use the hashtag #JPSOLOCONTEST in the description of your post (this is how I find all of them and watch them).

WHAT AM I LOOKING FOR?

• I will choose a winner whose solo a) significantly uses the provided rhythm; b) is musically coherent; c) moves me creatively.

THE PRIZE

• The winner will receive a DW 14x6.5 Black Nickel Over Brass Snare Drum with Gold Hardware.

TIPS

• You do not need to play at the tempo of the video below. Any tempo and any change in tempo is fine.

• Every Saturday in January, I will be posting a new lesson on JPBouvetMethod.com about playing better drum solos.

• Jharis Yokley’s Guest Course will launch on January 16, and features his advice on soloing as well.

• You have a 90 second limit, so focus on developing a small number of ideas instead of playing many different things.

• Don’t worry about production value. Record with your phone camera and upload. Better production quality does not give you an advantage.
